Clean Grout From Slate Floor Tiles
Mix equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spray onto any stains.
Clean grout from slate floor tiles. Slate is a durable stone but it can be porous depending on the quality. Pour a small amount of water directly onto the tile floor to rinse the solution off the grout. Wet the grout that remains with clean water and scour the surface of the tile with a damp nylon scouring pad. Apply two or three coats of sealant over the stone or grout with a string mop.
One way to prevent stains on slate is to apply floor sealant. These small particles can act like grits of sandpaper wearing down the protective sealer and making tiny scratches in the tiles every time the floor is walked on. Rinse the tile with clean water. You can clean slate floors regularly with a dust mop a broom and a damp mop.
Spray the solution on the grout and let it soak for about ten minutes. Commercial grout cleaner is available but be certain the cleaner does not contain bleach before using it on colored grout. Tile and stone sealant can be purchased at tile stores. Let it sit for five or ten minutes then scrub with a soft scrub pad not steel wool or a soft bristled.
If you fail to thoroughly clean the slate tile surface after grouting the grout can. As you scour keep the pad wet with plenty of water. It has a beautiful weathered dark look that matches both rustic and contemporary homes. Protect your hands with rubber gloves and dip your cheesecloth or terry cloth in water.
5 use a rag to wipe the grout to remove any leftover residue or dirt. Wring thoroughly as too much water can damage. Your grout is probably discolored by a gradual buildup of dirt and grime. Ideally you should dust mop your slate floor every day and damp mop it once a week.
By deep cleaning every two or three months you can keep your slate floors looking new. Cleaning the slate is easy but now you have to clean that grout. Grout is worked into the space with a damp sponge and the remainder of the grout is cleaned from the surface. Use caution as wet tiled floors can be very slippery.
